Stand-Up and Stand-Out

“Jesus was traveling from one city and village to another spreading the Good News about God’s kingdom.” (Luke 8:1)  Have you ever wondered where Jesus got the money to support traveling with 12 apostles? Well, here you go…   “Joanna, whose husband Chusa was Herod’s administrator; Susanna; and many other women. They provided financial support for Jesus and his disciples.”  Luke 8:3 (GW)  THAT’S RIGHT, the women.  If it was the women paying the bills, you have to wonder, “Where were the men?”

I don’t know where they were, but I know they’re still here. A recent survey says, “Women are generally more religious than men, particularly among Christians….” Most churches I have researched run about 60% women with 40% men. Like I said, “Where are the men?” We are in need of men like never before. C’mon guys…. it’s time to fill in that 40 percent we so desperately need in our churches. We are living in a society where “24 million children (34 percent) live ‘absent’ their biological father.” HOWEVER, “Children with involved, loving fathers are significantly more likely to do well in school, have healthy self-esteem, exhibit empathy and pro-social behavior, and avoid high-risk behaviors such as drug use, truancy, and criminal activity compared to children who have uninvolved fathers.”

There is so much more to say, but for now, MEN, it’s time to Stand-Up and Stand-Out so we can spread the Good News about God’s kingdom.”

Are You Ready For This?

Are you ready for this?

Last year, while on vacation, I fell and fractured my wrist. It hurt like “you know what” for months afterward. Well, a few weeks ago I fell again (no comment necessary) and hurt my shoulder….BAD! It hurt worse than my wrist.

After x-rays and a cat-scan at the emergency room, they couldn’t see anything wrong…but it STILL hurt. Well, at my 3 month clinic appointment on the following Friday they did a MRI and said they would get the results and let me know.

GET READY…..after going to church that weekend I noticed my shoulder pain was going away. When I woke up Monday morning (one week ago from today) there was ZERO PAIN IN MY SHOULDER. Later that morning the hospital called to tell Margie that I did fracture my shoulder and the fracture had fluid in it, thus the horrible pain. BUT WAIT, there is no more pain at all! It’s been one week now and my shoulder is STILL pain free and perfect.

I love it when God heals me BEFORE I even know that I was broken! Matthew 6:8 says, “…Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” I am a miracle in the making and so are YOU! God has NOT forgotten anyone and He is fulfilling His promise for health (3 John 2) to those who believe! Be encouraged and remember, “Fear not, ONLY believe!” (Mark 5:36)

GOD, Guns, and Government

As I write this, I am very aware that it will be scrutinized and even criticized by those who may not be familiar with me or my heart. I can only pray that God will convey my true heart of compassion for people and the mission I have to share HIM with others.

When I first saw the breaking news of the recent school shootings in Connecticut, I watched in shock as I burst into tears over all the innocent people who were massacred. With five grandchildren, I can only imagine the shock, the pain, and the hurt that the affected families have endured. My prayers and tears are with them today and in the future as well.

That being said, I am also in “shock” at some of the horrendous, and even ridiculous, blame and finger-pointing going on throughout the various forms of media. From postings of anti-gun videos with the f-word in the title, to blaming God, to even blaming God for NOT being there. I sooooooooo feel the need to say, “Step away from the incident and look at the WHOLE picture!” One may say, “Well Kevin, what do you think the whole picture is?” I’m glad you asked. Is it really any surprise that our schools have become more dangerous, and in cases like this, all out battle zones? You see, in the United States of America, a long long time ago, GOD was a foundation in our schools just like reading, writing, math, etc. BUT…….back in the early sixties (1962) we decided to oust Him, to kick Him out. Believe that! God, the giver, the maintainer, and sustainer of life was “kicked out of school.”

Some will choose to correct me by saying “prayer” was kicked out, not God. Well, what is prayer? Prayer is communication with God. In any relationship, if you remove communication, separation will follow. When the governing courts removed prayer, they removed the God that students were praying to. Yes, a Christian can pray silently under their breath, but the overall message was, “public acknowledgement of God or reliance upon Him” is no longer welcome. God doesn’t want to be just a spectator “over” our life, but an active participant “in” our life. Nowadays though, everything from crosses, to the ten commandments, to the word “Christmas” are banned from many of the hallways and classrooms in our public schools. We have banned the Giver of life, the Savior of mankind, the Lover of our souls, the Shelter from the storms of life…..from an institution that has more time with our children than any other organization. In a society where there used to be a fear (respect) of God, we have now replaced it with a fear of offending someone. Political correctness has pushed Biblical holiness to the curb.

Consider this. BEFORE 1962 (when prayer was removed) there was only ONE RECORDED killing incident at a public school…and it was with dynamite, not a gun. SINCE 1962 (when prayer was removed) there have been at least 63 school killing incidents, many with multiple deaths. And please don’t pull out the “gun control” card. The oldest surviving gun, made of bronze, has been dated to 1288. Guns have been ACCESSIBLE for more than 700 years, but ONLY USED IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS SINCE PRAYER WAS REMOVED IN 1962. Coincidence? No, consequence. Look, I’m no math major, but even I can do the math on that one.

So, how much do we REALLY CARE about the innocent who die in such violent school shootings? Do we only love them enough to apply a band-aid solution with our debates about gun control, more security, and mental health care? Or, do we love and care for them enough to SOLVE the problem by inviting GOD back into these institutions? John 10:10 tells us the thief, better known as satan, is the one who kills and destroys. God is the giver of life. For me, I know that an environment where God is welcomed is what I desire for my grandkids. I pray that we love the next generation enough to be REAL Christians; Christians who lead by example and who follow the words of Jesus Himself. He told His disciples who were trying to keep little children away from Him, “Leave the children alone! Allow the little ones to come to Me, and do not forbid or restrain or hinder them, for of such [as these] is the kingdom of heaven composed.” And He put His hands upon them, and then went on His way. (Matthew 19:14-15 – Amplified Bible)

We have forbidden, restrained, and hindered our children from God long enough. I can only pray that our nation will embrace the love of God, and lead by example, so the next generation can experience “IN GOD WE TRUST” like our forefathers who began this nation.

Right Side Up or Upside Down?

“I’ve come to start a fire on this earth—how I wish it were blazing right now! I’ve come to change everything, turn everything rightside up—how I long for it to be finished! Do you think I came to smooth things over and make everything nice? Not so. I’ve come to disrupt and confront! (Luke 12:49-51 – MSG)

Society is already in an upside down, backwards state of being. Jesus came to turn it right side up. As Jesus rights the upside down that means peace for the believers during turmoil. But, for those living upside down, it will be much confrontation and disruption. Those who have chosen a life of “right side up” will not be affected by this confrontation and disruption. Those living upside down will either surrender or resist. One thing is for sure though, there is no way to do both. You cannot face the Son from an upside down position. Choose one or the other. Live right side up and enjoy the Sonlight that only Jesus can provide!

Pastor Kevin Kinchen
