In the Bible, as Jesus is discussing His upcoming suffering of the cross, Peter tells Jesus He will NOT suffer. Jesus replied, “Get behind Me satan.” Peter was being used as a tool of the devil. What??? That’s right, the devil can use Christians IF he can convince them, by using accusations, by twisting Scriptures and by using their own “carnal” thinking. That’s why it’s so important to read and study God’s Word which enables you to discern “who” is speaking to you.
The devil is still working that way….by telling Christians they won’t ever suffer or go through anything difficult; just be comfortable, you know, all roses…no thorns. Everything in our society seems geared towards making our lives more comfortable. But even Jesus said, “In the world you’ll have trouble. But cheer up! I have overcome the world.” Jn 16:33
The enemy, whether he knows it or not, works for God. WHAT??? Here’s how. God is holy. God gives life. Every good thing comes from Him. So, satan does the dirty work. BUT, the Bible says that, as believers, WE are the Body of Christ. That means NOW here on earth because….”As Christ is, so are we in this world.” And since God has seated Jesus at His right hand in heavenly places, putting everything under His feet, as His body, WE are also sitting together in the heavenly places, with everything under our feet, IN Christ Jesus. (Eph 1:22-23, 1 Jn 4:17, Eph 1:20, Eph 2:6) So, what does all this mean for you and for me?
GET READY….. God told Jesus, “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” Then He said, “Rule in the midst of Your enemies.” Add this to what we just read in that last paragraph and it means….the enemy, satan, becomes OUR footstool. What does a footstool do? It takes US to a higher level. It allows US to reach things we could not reach before. Every time we face trouble, trials, persecution and attacks from the enemy (satan), we step up to a higher place. The “dirty work” of the devil is an “opportunity” for us to launch into a higher level of trusting God. He takes what the devil meant for evil and turns it around for our good.
Just remember, “we” defeat the enemy by expecting God to fulfill His Word. As we trust Him, HE is the One that reduces the enemy to become a footstool that we STEP ON under OUR feet. We give Him all the glory!
2 Cor. 4:17 – “Our suffering is light and temporary and is producing for us an eternal glory that is greater than anything we can imagine.”
