He said to LISTEN…

Read this verse very carefully…

Matthew 17:5 – (GW) He was still speaking when a bright cloud overshadowed them. Then a voice came out of the cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I love and with whom I am pleased. Listen to Him!”

I think a lot of people skim past this verse by saying, “This verse is about God announcing Jesus to the world.” Well, it is about that. BUT, it ends with a command…a command that believers around the world need to learn and obey; “Listen to Him!” Think about it. God Himself bellows out from the heavens the announcement of His ONLY SON coming to the world. He says that He loves Jesus and is well-pleased with Him. Imagine that! At first I think I would tremble at the knees in fear, but then, I would wonder, “Wow, if God sent His Son here, I want to listen to what Jesus says because it must be important!”

In today’s society EVERYONE has an opinion about everything. And, they can’t wait to tell the world how they feel. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, in this social media, fast-paced driven world of talking and texting we have lost the ONE THING God said to do, which is to “Listen to Jesus!” It seems we don’t have the time or the patience to actually LISTEN to Someone you can’t even see….even though we do that very thing every day on our cell phones.

Something must change…and it won’t be God. It has to be you and me that makes a change. How? By MAKING time, quality time, to listen to Jesus. Yes, He speaks to people. He speaks to those who will listen. But, not just listen, listen AND obey. “But I don’t have time Pastor Kevin!” Then you’re tooooooooo busy! Which is more important to you? What YOU want? Or, what GOD wants? I think you know. Do what God wants and you will never have to mess with what you want. He will take care of all that for you. I’m not talking about hours and hours of listening. Of course, that’s OK, but, even with ten or fifteen minutes of quality time with God….He can change your life forever. Just make the effort to do what you can….eventually you will notice that you’re doing what you can’t!

James 1:19 – (GW) Remember this, my dear brothers and sisters: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and should not get angry easily.

In Him,

Pastor Kevin Kinchen
