I posted the following devotion a few weeks ago. I am re-posting it today because it is still heavy on my heart. Read it carefully and then ask the Lord, “What can I do?”
JUDGES 2:7, 10 – AMPLIFIED BIBLE
“And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders (the leaders) who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord which He did for Israel……..and also all that generation were gathered to their fathers, AND THERE AROSE ANOTHER GENERATION AFTER THEM WHO DID NOT KNOW (RECOGNIZE, UNDERSTAND) THE LORD, OR EVEN THE WORK WHICH HE HAD DONE FOR ISRAEL.”
Joshua had been with Moses for many many years and witnessed incredible miracles. In fact, he learned so much from Moses, that when he died, God designated Joshua as the new leader. If Joshua was a leader approved by God then how come the next generation DID NOT KNOW (RECOGNIZE, UNDERSTAND) THE LORD, OR EVEN THE WORK WHICH HE HAD DONE FOR ISRAEL? It couldn’t have been Joshua’s fault, so whose fault was it?
It had to be the fault of “the elders (the leaders) who outlived Joshua.” Somewhere down the line Joshua’s leadership teams, that he trained up, did not complete the most important role of a leader. Leaders must lead, but they must also be raising up and training new, young, vibrant leaders CONSTANTLY! When leadership turns inward and resolves to MAINTAIN instead of to GAIN, they are putting the next generation at risk. Our world we live in is slowly becoming proof of this. YOU and I are the ones who can turn things around. After all, every generation deserves to KNOW (RECOGNIZE, UNDERSTAND) THE LORD, AND THE WORK WHICH HE HAS DONE FOR ALL OF US!
