Make Yourself At Home

OK, there’s a knock at your door. If it’s a visitor like a neighbor, a distant friend, or someone you are expecting you will probably say, “Come on in!” However, if it’s a very close friend, or a relative, or someone you know…someone you are familiar with and trust, you might say, “Come on in…and make yourself at home!”

What’s the difference? When you really know someone and they are an important part of your life you want them to feel like family. You want them to feel welcomed, comfortable and loved the whole time they are in your home. And most of all, you want them to know they are ALWAYS welcome to come into your home anytime they desire. Here’s my point……..

Jesus said, “But if you make yourselves at home with Me and My Words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.” (John 15:7 MSG) Jesus has already welcomed us (when He died on the cross for us) to make ourselves at home with Him. However, WE are the ones that must respond and CHOOSE to do so.

BUT THATS NOT ALL, HE ALSO SAID, “His Words must be at home in us.” Do you welcome His Word to be “at home in you” or are His Words a stranger, a distant friend, a visitor you’re not familiar with? His Word (the Bible) need to be welcomed, comfortable and loved in our home; in our lives. And most of all, He needs to know His Word is ALWAYS welcome in our lives at anytime, and it will be honored, respected, and obeyed…….because THAT is what “families” do.

Let today be the day that YOU are at home with Him and His Word is at home in YOU, just like family.

In Him,
Pastor Kevin Kinchen
