Have you ever been full of despair?

Are you honest with God? I mean “really” honest with God? Have you ever been so full of despair that your “really” honest prayer to God would only consist of one word, “WHY?” Well, if you have been on this earth very long I think your answer would be a resounding YES. In the Bible the prophet Jeremiah had his share of moments like this.

“But why, why this chronic pain, this ever worsening wound and no healing in sight? You’re nothing, GOD, but a mirage, a lovely oasis in the distance–and then nothing!” (Jeremiah 15:18 MSG)

WOW! That’s what I call a brutally honest prayer. But, you know what? God can handle those kind of prayers. God did not strike Jeremiah with lightning. He did not kick Jeremiah out of the ministry that had been given to him. So what was God’s response? He answered Jeremiah with truth, correction, instruction, and a promise; everything necessary to be victorious. Read this carefully because we have the same response and promises…..

“This is how GOD answered me: ‘Take back those words, and I’ll take you back. Then you’ll stand tall before Me. Use words truly and well. Don’t stoop to cheap whining. Then, but only then, you’ll speak for Me. Let your words change them. Don’t change your words to suit them. I’ll turn you into a steel wall, a thick steel wall, impregnable. They’ll attack you but won’t put a dent in you because I’m at your side, defending and delivering.” GOD’s Decree. “I’ll deliver you from the grip of the wicked. I’ll get you out of the clutch of the ruthless.'” (Jeremiah 15:19-21 MSG)

I LOVE EVERY WORD OF THIS RESPONSE! Look, YOU are going to make it! Pastor Lloyd Ogilvie says, “What we must remember when we face depression is that we are not our feelings and we are not to be overly impressed by their testimony, particularly when it is contrary to God’s. Very often all you have to do to win is “to keep on keeping on.” There is victory built into perseverance. I have heard it said that in order to win a fight all you’ve got to be is the last one standing.”

YOU are that last man (woman) standing because you have our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, standing with you! Be honest with God, listen and obey, embrace His embrace, and trust His promises. The result? VICTORY!

In Him,
Pastor Kevin Kinchen
