Psalms 9:1-2 NLT – “I will praise You, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things You have done. I will be filled with joy because of You. I will sing praises to Your name, O Most High.”
As I read several chapters in Psalms this morning I came across these verses. Notice the phrase, “I will be filled with joy because of You.” In today’s society, most people are only “filled with joy” when everything is going right; when there are no problems at the time. Well, this verse says the Psalmist was “filled with joy” because of GOD. Nothing else. It wasn’t because of a raise at work, or a new car, or any other “thing.” The joy wasn’t because of a person, an emotion, or a feeling. The heart of the Psalmist was full of joy all because of God, because of who He is, nothing else.
Nehemiah 8:10 says, “Don’t be sad because the joy you have in the LORD is your strength.” (GOD’S WORD Translation) Listen, when we learn to have joy regardless of circumstances, emotions, people, events, and attitudes…we will tap into a JOY that produces STRENGTH. Strength to press on, strength to change, and most of all, strength to share that joy with others. This all happens when our focus is on God, when we realize (through the Word of God) who He really is.
I pray YOU are full of joy today for all the right reasons. CHOOSE to focus on God and you will find that joy follows close behind.
