Remember when you were a kid and you did something crazy, most likely something mischievous? When your mom found out she would holler, “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” In amazement of her disgust you probably responded by saying, “What?” as though nothing unusual happened. Well, in Matthew 16 we find something similar but with a different twist on it.
Jesus was asking His disciples who they thought He was. Peter boldly spoke up and said what only the Holy Spirit could have revealed…..Jesus asked him, “And how about you? Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter said, “You’re the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus came back, “God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn’t get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am. And now I’m going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out. (Matthew 16:15-18 – MSG)
I love, love, love what Jesus told Peter when He said, “And now I’m going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock.” You see, it’s only when WE acknowledge WHO JESUS IS that we truly find out who WE are. Jesus tells Peter that he is a rock, a rock that is strong and stable. And remember, this is Peter who would deny even knowing Jesus, three times in a row, in just a few days from this scene. How could Jesus call him a rock? It’s because He sees us for “who HE created us to be” not for “who we are right now.” THAT is the best news you have heard all day!
Get to know Jesus and find out who you really are. See yourself through God’s eyes instead of your own. That’s what I am doing. I see myself healthy, strong, ripped with new muscles, and with a strong voice that can be heard for miles, amen? Amen! God made you, He called you, and He designed you with and for a purpose. Find HIM and allow HIM to show YOU who you REALLY ARE!!!
More to come…….stay tuned!
