How do you read your Bible? Seriously? Reverential? Casually? Studious? Do you ever try to visualize what’s going on as you read? Do you try to “get into the mind” of the main character? Do you ever wonder how some of the stories would be portrayed if they were happening today? Well, I do. I’m a very visual person. That’s why I love the God’s Word translation and the Message Bible; they tend to paint a picture for me of what’s happening. Because of this, I find a lot of comedy in the Bible. Yes, comedy. For instance, today I read the following about a blind man who was brought to Jesus.
Mark 8:23-25 (NLT)
Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then, spitting on the man’s eyes, he laid his hands on him and asked, “Can you see anything now?”
I think it’s absolutely comical that AFTER Jesus spits on the man’s eyes He asks him if he can see….keep reading.
The man looked around. “Yes,” he said, “I see people, but I can’t see them very clearly. They look like trees walking around.”
Well of course you can’t see clearly….Jesus just spit in your eyes!!! That cracks me up! I can even picture Jesus chuckling over this. But you know what, whether Jesus spits, prays, or lays hands on someone, you can be sure of one thing….He finishes and completes the job! Always!
Then Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes again, and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything clearly.
No matter what you are facing tonight, if it’s not complete then Jesus isn’t finished. Remember, He is the Author AND the Finisher of our faith! He has already started a work in you and He WILL complete it. So, go ahead and laugh a little….wipe the spit out of your eyes and SEE!
PS – Unless I pass this kidney stone tonight I am scheduled to have it removed at 6:30 am tomorrow. (Friday) I appreciate your prayers!
