Later the Master selected seventy and sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he intended to go. “When you enter a town and are received, eat what they set before you, heal anyone who is sick, and tell them, ‘God’s kingdom is right on your doorstep!’ (Luke 10:1, 8-9 MSG)
I love the “casual, matter-of-fact kind of way” that Jesus tells these 70 disciples to enter a town and “heal anyone who is sick.” He didn’t give any qualifications for the sick. They didn’t have to “be” anything except receptive. The disciples were not told to fast 40 days in advance or to be perfect or to pray eloquently. They were just told to HEAL THEM.
I think we make praying for the sick way to complicated. We want to analyze, scrutinize, qualify, justify, verify, and purify people before we pray for them. We try to figure out if they are “healable” or not. Even after all that, many pray an, “if it be Thy will” kind of prayer. Well, that is NOT what Jesus said to do. He said, “heal them.” Obviously it IS His will or He would have never said, “heal them.”
Do someone a favor today; someone who is battling sickness or something similar. Present our healing Jesus to them and then…..heal them. Not you, but HIM IN YOU! Don’t get all weird about it. Don’t try to figure out if it worked or not. Just obey. Simply obey. Jesus will do the rest!
