The Secret Place, Revealed once again! The KJV and the AMP VERSIONS SAY…..
Luke 6:12 (KJV) “And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.”
Luke 6:12 (AMP) “Now in those days it occurred that He went up into a mountain to pray, and spent the whole night in prayer to God.”
Notice Jesus “went out into a mountain” / “went up into a mountain” to pray. Many people tell me they “talk to God” throughout their day as they work, drive, etc. Well, so do I, and there is nothing wrong with that. But, even Jesus found it necessary to “get away” from the every-day routine settings periodically. In fact, Luke 5:16 in the Message Bible says, “As often as possible Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer.”
The definition of the words “went out” in Luke 6:12 means, “to issue (literally or figuratively) come (forth, out), depart (out of), escape, get out, go (abroad, away, forth, out), proceed (forth). Jesus knew He needed undistracted quality time with His Father. He also knew that for this to happen it would take a deliberate course of action. A choice would have to be made in order to find such a place. It wouldn’t just “happen.” WE should do the same thing and follow His example.
And what was the outcome of this particular time? The choosing of the twelve apostles who would soon “change the world.” This included Judas, who initiated the death of Jesus on the cross, which ended up being the salvation that we enjoy and live by today. I am sooooooo glad Jesus was NOT distracted during His alone time with His Father. He spent quality time with His Father, listened for His instructions, and obeyed. I am going to follow that same pattern in my own life. How about you?
Please pray for me as a 5mm kidney stone works it’s way through my body. So far it’s been quite painful. I need it to pass quickly and without pain. Amen. Thanks!
Have a great weekend!
