Do We REALLY Get It?

In the book of Acts, chapter 13, Paul was attending services on the Sabbath in Antioch. When the question arose if anyone had something to share to do so now, Paul stood up. He told of the history of God reaching out to the Israelites via the prophets, supernatural provision in the desert, the Promised land, the birth of Jesus Christ, etc. Towards the end of his message Paul says, “Dear brothers and sisters, children of Abraham, and friends of God, this message of salvation has been precisely targeted to you. The citizens and rulers in Jerusalem didn’t recognize who He (Jesus) was and condemned Him to death. They couldn’t find a good reason, but demanded that Pilate execute Him anyway. They did just what the prophets said they would do, but had no idea they were following to the letter the script of the prophets, even though those same prophets are read every Sabbath in their meeting places.” (Acts 13:26-28 MSG)

Paul’s point was, “You guys read the Scriptures about all this every single weekend yet don’t seem to get it! Your way to salvation, life, everything, is right before your eyes and you’re missing it!” I wonder if WE do the same thing. We read our Bibles but don’t “get it.” Maybe we read it in a hurry. Maybe we read it for knowledge instead of for KNOWING. Maybe we attend church every weekend but can’t tell someone what last week’s message was about. We’ve learned how to “do” church instead of how to “be” the church.

It’s time for change. Here’s how to get things on track……..“Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it.” 2 Corinthians 13:5 (MSG)

Today, get honest with God. Ask Him for help. Allow Him to purify your heart, your motives, and your desires. Seek Him sincerely and then take or make time to listen. Be quiet, be still……and know; just know. Know that HE is God and HE is right there….WITH you, FOR you, and IN you. As you listen, He will speak. Then, simply acknowledge and obey. He does the rest. Amen? Amen!

Keep up with the status about Tassie, Margie’s cousin, on the blog, Over 40,000 people have viewed it from 40 countries! That means many many people are praying and we are seeing a miracle right before our eyes. Glory to God! Thanks for praying!

  1. Pastor Kevin,

That is really somerhing for all of us to test ourselves to see if we really get it. I can honestly say that the last time I attended Church was Easter Sunday and I still remember your very powerful message about how we as Christians sometimes put ourselves in our own prison and how some people are innocent and put in prison or accused of things they didn’t do. At the end of the day all Christians need to love one another, and accept that all people are God’s children and he made a huge sacrifice for us so that we can have his unfailing love if we accept him in our hearts and really want to have that relationship with him. I thank God everyday that he put you and Margie back in our lives. As I read Scriptures and devotionals I am slowly beginning to understand how I am to acquire this relationship with God and get to know him little by little each day. All Glory be to God and those like you and Margie who reach out and help people all over to get the message. Amen!
