Are you in a desert? Congratulations!

Are YOU in a desert? A dry place? Perhaps it’s a spiritual desert where you can’t seem to connect with God. Or, you might be in an emotional desert where loneliness and depression are meeting you at every turn. Whatever the case, CONGRATULATIONS! What did he just say??? I said, congratulations. Here’s why.

If you were lost in a physical desert one of the main things you would confront is THIRST. Deserts create thirst. And thirst creates focus…not just any focus, but targeted, passionate, life or death focus. You MUST find water…at all costs, no matter what it takes. If you have to filter some nasty gritty water through your even nastier sweaty sock…you will. Why? You are totally FOCUSED on satisfying that thirst. Focus creates change, determination, and endurance. Eventually, you find it. You lap up that water and are able to function once again and make your way out of that desert.

Luke 4:1,14 (NKJV) 1)Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 14) Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.

Notice that Jesus was “led” by the Spirit into the wilderness, the desert. He was led by the Spirit NOT so He could wither and die there, but so He could RETURN IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT! Folks, the desert is NOT a place of death for you, it’s a place of PROMOTION! Focus! Focus on Jesus and allow HIM to satisfy every thirst, every desire, and every dream. Allow the Holy Spirit to prepare you for YOUR promotion. Umm, one bit of advice though. They say if you are ever in a desert that you should “keep your mouth shut.” It prevents dehydration. We would do ourself good to listen more than we speak when in a desert place. It prevents murmuring, complaining, and whining which can spiritually dehydrate us for sure. Amen? Amen. So, CONGRATULATIONS on your desert experience…your PROMOTION is in the making!

  1. This focus on thirst opened an unexpected window for me. I’ve been praying that a dear family member would find the right “focus”. I realize that, as a too eager enabler, I have been providing her “sips” of earthly “water” that prevent her from experiencing her real need to focus on true thirst.
