In John chapter 4 Jesus is talking to the Samaritan women at the well. He had stopped to rest after a long travel. His disciples freak out when they come back from buying food and see Him talking to a “Samaritan.” that was a no-no for a Jew. I am sooooooooooo glad that Jesus looks at peoples’ hearts and NOT their background, color, sex, size, or situation. When the disciples finally ask Him if He wants food, He says, “The food that keeps me going is that I do the will of the One who sent me, finishing the work he started. As you look around right now, wouldn’t you say that in about four months it will be time to harvest? Well, I’m telling you to open your eyes and take a good look at what’s right in front of you. These Samaritan fields are ripe. It’s harvest time!” (John 4:34-35 MSG)
Listen, it’s time for us, all of us, to open our eyes and take a good look at what’s right in front of us. People are hurting, broken, sick, lost, and searching for answers all around us. We don’t always realize it because we are inclined to have tunnel vision. We wake up, go to work/school, and come home….taking the same route and doing the same thing over and over again. We MUST open our eyes, look up from our norm, and SEE the harvest around us. WE have Jesus! HE is more than enough for a hurting world. HOWEVER, He needs US to be His voice, His hands, and His feet.
Go for it. People may not “look” like they are ready. You may “think” they aren’t interested. Don’t be moved by what you see or think. Go by the words of Jesus, “Well, I’m telling you to open your eyes and take a good look at what’s right in front of you. These Samaritan fields are ripe. It’s harvest time!”
