Good morning and welcome to The E-quip Devotion. This morning I have been reading in Mark 2:1-12. In verses 1-5 four men brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus so he could receive his healing. They obviously were carrying their friend on a cot or some kind of bed. When they arrived where Jesus was staying, they were surely surprised to see there was no room at all for them to even get near Jesus. Driven by compassion for their paralyzed friend, they got creative. They made an opening in the roof (on a house that wasn’t even theirs) and LOWERED the man into the room where Jesus was teaching.
Verse 5 says, When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” Verses 9-11 tell us that not only was the man forgiven, but he was also totally healed. Notice Jesus SAW their faith. Whose faith? Not the paralyzed guy. It said THEIR faith. It was the faith of the FOUR FRIENDS who had a visible faith for their friend. How could Jesus SEE faith? He saw their faith by their actions. If you are crazy enough to tear off part of someone else’s roof, and risk dropping a paralyzed person by lowering him into the room, then you must BELIEVE that Jesus was worth the effort. Remember, the place was so packed out that no one could even get to Jesus. Why didn’t Jesus see their faith? How come their faith wasn’t visible?
What are YOU believing for? Where is YOUR faith? Is your faith, your belief, visible? Can others SEE that you believe what you SAY you believe? Put forth actions that show what you believe. I believe I am healed. So, with everything inside of me I show actions that are a visual picture of what I believe. When a door of ministry opens up, even if it seems impossible for my body to fulfill, I walk through that door. Why? Well, that is what a healed person would do, right? And….I am healed right? Then the only thing to do is to ACT on that faith and trust the Lord. What if I fail? Well….what if I don’t? I guess we never know until we step out in that “roof-ripping, people-lowering, action-following” kind of faith. Believe. Believe enough to act. And then, WATCH. Watch what Jesus does for those who truly BELIEVE!!!
“Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense…..Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove.” (James 2:17-18 MSG)
